About
Meet Chris
Hi, I'm Chris, the founder of Coastal Roots Therapy.
When friends and colleagues describe me, they often say, "He wears many hats” and I can’t argue. My journey has taken me through many different communities, careers, and experiences, but the one constant throughout has always been people.
Born and raised in Cape Breton, I value authenticity, hard work, and genuine connection. Those values continue to guide both my life and my work as a therapist.
My career has taken me in many different directions. After earning a Bachelor of Science from Cape Breton University, I completed my education degree at the University of Maine and taught in New Brunswick, Alberta, and England. I spent years working in various construction and industrial settings across Canada and the United States eventually earning my Red Seal certification as a Pipefitter/Steamfitter.

My path toward counselling began while working in a residential care setting supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With the support of wonderful colleagues, I began developing my therapeutic voice while witnessing the dedication of healthcare workers who often do the best they can with the limited resources available. More recently I completed my Masters in counselling psychology from Yorkville university bringing together my diverse experiences and my passion for helping others through Coastal Roots Therapy.
Today, I bring those experiences into my work as a therapist. My goal is to create a space where you can show up as you are, explore what matters most to you, and work collaboratively toward meaningful and lasting change.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our dog, Lilly. I’m happiest outdoors, especially when I’m skiing—whether it’s on a mountain or the Mira. I also enjoy the many ways people connect and celebrate life, from dancing and live shows to comedy, watching rugby, and gathering with friends and family for a good old-fashioned kitchen party. Living in Cape Breton, I’ve always appreciated the importance of community, connection, and taking the time to enjoy the activities that ground us.

About Coastal Roots
For almost 27 years, my work took me from place to place. When it came time to open my own practice, I knew I was ready to put down roots. Having long been known as the "East Coaster," the name Coastal Roots Therapy reflects both where I've come from and the foundation I hope to provide for others.
Like the deep roots that anchor our rugged coastline, healing begins with feeling grounded, supported, and connected. At Coastal Roots Therapy, I offer compassionate counselling for caregivers, individuals navigating life transitions, and those seeking meaningful change, by helping clients build resilience, discover clarity, and create lasting growth.
